About Stanmore Hawks FC

Christos Panayides had a break through 2018. Scroll down below to Hall of Fame to see what awards he won in 2018. But perhaps the most impressive stat was that Christos made his debut for not only the U18, U20 but also First Grade all at the age of just 16 years old. Below is Christos's views on what he wants to achieve in 2019.
Below is a short video of what Stanmore Hawks is about, with their long term vision for players of all abilities and gender.

A Brief History - 40 years in the making

After playing in the lower leagues of NSW Football for the early 1980s, Cyprus United were introduced into the NSW Inter Urban Division Five for the 1985 season. In their first season in the Inner Urban league, they won two-thirds of their matches, finishing the season with 12 wins and gaining promotion. This was followed by a string of seven consecutive promotions, earning to entry into the 1993 NSW Premier League season. Stanmore finished 9th in 1993 and 12th in 1994. In 1995, the club relegated.
Over the next decade, the club’s ranking declined in the second division of NSW Football. With the club slipping to another relegation in 2007 to the State League.

In 2012, a competition restructure saw the introduction of the National Premier Leagues system. Stanmore were appointed to the NSW State League Division 2, the fourth tier of football in NSW.

Stanmore lost their first match of the 2013 season. Luckily, they turned it around and won promotion, earning the double silverware of Premiers (by 6 points) and Championship Winners and most importantly winning promotion to State League 1.
2014, finishing in 8th place. They were 8 points above bottom-placed Inter Lions, but still 8 points behind local rivals Dulwich Hill. In 2015, Stanmore Hawks finished 6th with 32 points, missing out on the finals by 2 points to local rivals Dulwich Hill.

In 2016, the competition was re-named to National Premier League NSW Men’s 3. Stanmore grew and made their highest finish since the 1990s. Stanmore finished 4th with 48 points, joint with Dunbar Rovers and Rydalmere Lions. Stanmore only finished 8 points behind Premiers Hills United FC. 2016 also saw the reintroduction of Youth teams now within the NPL system.
2017 NPL3 was increased to 14 teams. Stanmore’s recent climb halted, winning only 8 games of 25. They safely finished 14 points ahead of bottom-placed Balmain Tigers and 14 points from a finals position.

2018 was meant to be the turn around season, the first 5 games started well. 3 wins, 1 draw, 1 defeat. The wheels fell off from that point. Slipping further down the table with 5 consecutive defeats. The second half of the season the team found some form and were much improved. However, results were still inconsistent. In the end finishing 17 points above last place Fraser Park and 19 points from the finals.
